What Are "Shidduchim"?

The Hebrew word "Shidduchim" (plural for "shidduch") means dates.  Just like the English word, it can mean the person you are dating as in, "this is my shidduch, Adam" or the actual date itself, as in, "I have a shidduch with Sarah tonight".  It also refers to the process, as in, "Are you busy in shidduchim now?" which means are you free to date someone or are you already dating someone.

The biggest difference between a "shidduch" and a "date" is that the word "shidduchim" refers to dating among marriage minded individuals who are dating according to Torah guidelines for dating and relationships.

At Better Shidduchim, we are open to working with people who have not been (or still are not) acting in accordance with Torah guidelines, but our work stays true to our belief system which defines dating as searching for a life partner and incorporates some guidelines for keeping the focus on the end goal.  We each choose to live our lives in adherence with Orthodox Jewish Law.

If you have any further questions about this, please feel free to schedule a free 15 minute consultation by visiting the "Scheduling, Fees and Payments" page on this site.
